Minister Henry C. Green, Jr was delivered into this world for ministry on May 19, 1948 to the late Henry and Gloria Green in Washington, DC. On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, following a brief illness, he completed the assignment that was given to him.
Minister Green received his early education in the District of Columbia Public Schools. In 1991, Pastor Green moved to Dallas, Texas to attend the Criswell School of Theology and received his Associate and Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies and his Masters Degree in Theology.
In 1965, Minister Green enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1971 when he was Honorably Discharged. Minister Green’s professional career started with the DC Metropolitan Police Department in 1970 where he retired in 1991 as a Detective.
Minister Henry C. Green, Jr accepted Christ at early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Arlington, Virginia under the leadership of the later Rev. Arron Mackley. Minister Green served several churches during his spiritual journey and then in 1983, Minister Green joined the Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of the late Rev. D. Lee Owens. Minister Green accepted his call to the ministry and was licensed in 1984 and ordained in 1991. While at Greater Mt. Zion MBC, he was over the Youth Ministry, Senior Ministry and Director of Licentiate Ministers.
While in Dallas, Texas Minister Green joined Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. C.B.T. Smith. While at Golden Gate, Minister Green served as Director of the Adult Rehabilitation Ministry, the Youth and Senior Ministry and the Brook Manor Ministries.
In 2003, Golden Gate MBC assisted in the planting of the Community Outreach Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Green as the founding Pastor. Over the past 21 years at COMBC, Minister Green preached and served the members of Community. He would say “He loved his seniors and youth and everyone in between For years, his mission was to make disciples for the Kingdom, for them to carry the gospel to all, and meet the needs of others. On August 24th, he became Pastor Emeritus of the Community Outreach MBC.
Minister Green was an avid Washington Redskins fan (Commanders Team). He always looked forward to family dinners on Sunday and Friday game night with the crew. He is the grill master of the family. He was a substitute teacher for over 15 years for the Dallas ISD. Whenever he went out, he often heard “Mr. Green” from a former student. His home was always open to family, friends, his church members and neighbors.
For 35 years, Minister Green has been married to the love of life, Michelle JB Green, who has walked this journey with him. Together they have raised 7 children that came into their lives in various ways. He loves being called Papa by the grands. His favorite past time is being with his family. Minister Green’s favorite scripture is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Everyone who knows Minister Green knows his favorite song to sing is “My Soul is Anchored in the Lord”.
His parents, Henry and Gloria Green, his sister Barbara Jean Knight and his daughter Angela Green preceded him in death. Minister Green will continue to live in the hearts of his family and friends who cherish his memory: His devoted wife, Michelle JB Green, his daughters Yolanda (William) and Renee, his son Robert; The Crew: Brandon, Tina, Lea, Dralan (Tempest) Lorenza. Bonus Crew: Vanessa, Eric, Maggie, Dequavia, Dennis (Denitria); brothers James, Garland and Anthony; his sisters Elaine, Brenda, Renee and Vicky. Sister in love, Vanessa DJ Hilliard; a special brother in love, Elder Wallace Johnson (Freddie), Catherine Jones. Godchildren: Star, Moriah, Kiera, Charles and Jabar; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
