John Ross Selby was born on June 16, 1983 in Austin, Texas, and concluded his journey on February 8, 2025 at the age of 41. Though his primary residence was Austin, Tx, the impact of his life was felt profoundly across communities far and wide.

John’s family carries his memory forward, including his mother Esperanza “Hope” Luque, whom he said showed love, spiritual support, and dedication to family that could get him through his darkest days. Father, Foye Lee Selby Sr., who showed him skills and work ethic that would shape and influence his own, and his stepmother Barbara Selby. Also holding him in remembrance are his sister, Avanel Selby Cook, and brother Foye Lee Selby Jr., along with his children: Kennedy Ross Selby, Madison Faith Selby, Mason John Selby, Jonathon Tavon Selby, and Alasha Bunton. Preceding him in death was his beloved daughter Shaniyah Hope Selby and his grandmother Andrea Cardona Luque, uncles John J. Castillo, Rod T Selby, and Jackie C. Selby. Continuing to hold him dear to her heart will be his grandmother Gretha Barnes. He will continued to be remembered and loved by his partner Porsche Grant. Also carrying his memory forward will be his Step siblings Patrick Amora, Marco Jr., Daniel and April Contreras. His nephews and nieces Ayana Sibley, Tarvis Sibley, Lavender Cook, La’Rayea Cook, Braelyn Mitchell, and Brandon Childs are among the list of those who will carry his memory forward. John will be remembered and deeply loved by his cousin Ricky Zapata as well as his cousins from the Selby Klan, The Castillo Klan, and the Armendariz Klan.

One of John’s most significant accomplishments was his dedicated service in the United States Army, from 2001 to 2004. His honorable discharge marks a period in his life where he displayed courage, discipline and an unwavering sense of duty, embodying values that remained integral throughout his life.

His Connection to community life was strengthened by a lifelong love for motorcycles, inherited from his father and uncles who were founding members of the Humpin People motorcycle club. John’s leadership as the local President for many years was a source of inspiration and camaraderie, embodying his devotion to this community of kindred spirits.

John’s personality was as vibrant as his smile. Those who encountered him quickly recognized his caring nature, always willing to lend a helping hand. John turned ordinary memories into cherished memories, seamlessly weaving warmth and light into the lives he touched.

In this moment of sorrow, John’s family wishes to convey their heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming show of love and support. The memories of smiles shared with John form a tapestry of his life, a tapestry that continues to comfort us all.
